Cape
Canaveral, FL – The Missile, Space and Range Pioneers Spring Gathering
Banquet will feature presentations by two student groups of THE NEXT
GENERATION OF SPACE PIONEERS and by Danom Buck about Boeing Commercial
Crew Program and the Boeing CST-100 Crew Vehicle.
Last
year, the Missile, Space and Range Pioneers donated $5,000 to student
design projects at Florida Institute of Technology. The contribution
went to support the University’s hybrid rocket project team and the
Lunabotics project team who are preparing their projects for competition
in the spring. These NEXT GENERATION OF PIONEERS will give a brief
report on the accomplishments their projects
Danom
Buck will also give an overview of the CST-100 (Crew Space
Transportation) crew capsule designed by the Boeing as their entry
for NASA’s Commercial Crew Development (CCDev) program. Its primary
mission will be to transport crew to the International Space Station,
and to private space stations such as the proposed Bigelow Aerospace
Commercial Space Station. The CST-100 spacecraft will be larger than
the Apollo command module and will be able to support larger crews of up
to 7 people as the result of greater habitable interior volume and the
reduced weight of equipment needed to support an exclusively
low-Earth-orbit configuration. It is designed to be able to remain
on-orbit for up to seven months and for reusability for up to ten
missions. The CST-100 will be compatible with multiple launch vehicles,
including the Atlas V, Delta IV, and Falcon 9. The initial launch
vehicle would be the Atlas V. Boeing will perform production and testing
of the CST-100 in the OPF-3 at the Kennedy Space Center.
The
Spring Banquet is set for Friday, 27 April 2012 and will held at
Florida Institute of Technology, on the second floor of the Denius
