KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Florida -- At approximately 12:45 p.m. today, a free-flight test of the Project Morpheus lander resulted in the craft crashing and catching on fire at Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
A small leak was contained just minutes prior to the test.
Project Morpheus is one of 20 small projects in the NASA Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate's Advanced Exploration Systems program. These projects pioneer new approaches for rapidly developing prototype systems, demonstrating key capabilities and validating operational concepts for future human missions beyond Earth orbit.

Crash & Burn....sounds like the Obama Administration.
This really is not the time or place for spreading your political views. Please have some respect. Many people far smarter and more ambitious than yourself spent a long time developing this project. If you feel that all this has been a waste of time and money then perhaps you do not deserve to be an American.
Wow, very impressive comment! I agree! I also do agree with the apparent politics of the other person BUT I totally agree that this isn't the place NOR is this to be taken lightly AND I AM a total supporter of our space program!!!! I would hope most Americans are & think they should be, no matter our "politics"! God Bless America and never quit!
I'm not sure what thinking this project is a waste of time and money has to do with being an American. I find it interesting that a leak was contained minutes before the test...seriously!?!? When most people have a leak of a rocket before launch, they scrub it and fix the problem. Sounds similar to the rationale about the huge field fire at JSC this vehicle caused last year. I believe the logic was, well we had fire trucks in place but they got called off for another incident so we tested anyway...torched the field...Good job!!!
Oh boy, more wasted money on space crap. How about improving and fixing this planet before ruining another one.
Hey guys this is new technology. Almost everything I ever tried didn't work on the first try, but what that first try told me is what part of it did work and put me in the right direction to solve the problems. Only thing to do is build another one and test again....Al Schrader
Just finished my 4th tour of the Space Center over a few decades. I am still amazed at the accomplishments of the NASA team. There will always be set backs when dealing with this level of risk, but I still believe it is all worth the risks. Sorry this administration has no clue what is going on. Will always have the utmost respect for everyone at NASA and may God bless all of you and God Bless the USA.
